I have seen the faithfulness of the Lord again and again in my life. The Lord never ceases to amaze me with His ability to come through for me. There have been times when I felt that He came through in the very last minute, but He has never left me forsaken or begging for bread.
I have witnessed my spiritual leaders at times going through difficulty with their provision. And in so many cases, I watched them give generously to the Lord out of a place of lack. What I mean by that is when they had nothing to give, they gave sacrificially to show the Lord, that money did not rule their hearts. God loves a cheerful giver. He says test me.
Malachi 3:10-11 (NLT)
10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,” says the LORD of Heaven’s Armies, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test! 11 Your crops will be abundant, for I will guard them from insects and disease. Your grapes will not fall from the vine before they are ripe,” says the LORD of Heaven’s Armies.
There is something about giving that unlocks the heart of God. I believe it’s because money is often times the thing we put our faith and confidence in. If money rules are heart then we are not ready to handle the greater riches of His Kingdom.
Luke 6:38 (NLT)
38 Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.”
In the parable of the steward we find that God rewards the faithful. it also explains how God takes from those who are unfaithful and gives it to those who can steward it better. Lord, let us be found faithful.
Luke 19:26 (NLT)
26 “‘Yes,’ the king replied, ‘and to those who use well what they are given, even more will be given. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away.
I don’t know about you, but I want God to see my heart as one of complete surrender. If you find yourself in a place of lack then it’s time to sow generously. He said it’s OK to put him into a test.
My experience is that He is a very generous God, who has his eyes on the faithful.
There was a time in the life of our family when we lost our livelihood and things were very desperate for us. Afterwards I started working a new job and had managed to scrape by just a little bit of savings. Just enough to make me feel like I had a rainy day fund in case of an emergency. At the time in reference we had gone to a conference and it was offering time. I was asking the Lord what He would like for me to give. You know it’s one thing to give out of abundance, but it is another thing altogether to give out of lack.
It was a holy moment as I felt the presence of God overshadowing me. He spoke to me in one of those ways that only the Holy Spirit can do. He said what are you putting your trust in? I immediately began to weep because He had put His finger on the very thing that was bringing me security. I had a decision to make, and it was not an easy one. fortunately that day I made the right decision. I gave the entirety of our savings in the offering. I did not want that money to be ruling my heart. Amazingly, the next day, while we were at the conference, a man which I had barely gotten to know, and who was by no means aware of our predicament, turned around to me and said the Lord asked him to give me an offering. To my surprise, the offering he placed in my hands was the very same amount of money that we had released to the Lord the day before with weeping. This time my weeping was for an entirely different reason. The generosity of the Lord is somehow tied to a cheerful giver.
Paul learned in his apostleship, the power of contentment with the provision of God. He explained in Philippians how he learned how to live on much and how he learned to live on very little. He said the key is in trust and contentment with the Lord’s provision, learning how to keep our eyes fixed upon Jehovah Jireh is very important. He is the Lord our provider.
I pray this encourages you today.
